The book leads the reader through the evolution of women’s sports in Italy from 1861 – the year when Italy became a nation – until today. The story is supported by a rich display of vintage images, articles and reproductions of historical documents and memorabilia, also witnessing the evolution of women’s role in Italian society.
The book is divided into the following sections: “PIONEERS” dedicated to the origins of women’s sport from 1861 to 1945, through a brief history of the most essential dates; “BODY AND TECHNOLOGY” which illustrates the evolution of sport techniques; “SPORTS” with a history of sport disciplines in which Italian athletes played their most significant roles; “CHAMPIONS” with the portraits of 16 Italian woman athletes that made history, from Ondina Valla to Federica Pellegrini.
