A race through one hundred years of Giro d’Italia, Italy’s most famous bicycle race, with a gallery of its most celebrated champions and of the social evolution of the country that acted as a stage. The book analyzes the races at 10-year intervals starting from 1909 focusing each time on a different social and historical aspect (for example 1919 is the first edition held after World War I and weaves through a country scarred by 4 years of fighting.

The backbone of the book is the iconographic research which brought up a great wealth of previously unpublished materials: photos, collector cards, postcards, illustrated magazines, all images and objects which document the passions that made cycling on of the most popular sports in 20th Century.
